With reference to the Scottish Socialist Party this morning, Mr McNeil heard me say firmly that I deplore any action by members of the Parliament that encourages interruptions from the public gallery.Members will all remember that the clear dividing line on conduct in the chamber falls between disrespectful and discourteous behaviour, which earns a rebuke, and disorderly behaviour, which may produce sanctions. I cannot think of anything more disorderly than members in the chamber encouraging disorder in the public gallery.

It is not just nurses who go on those courses: allied health professionals, doctors, dentists and pharmacists also attend. That may be of some comfort to Mr Davidson, in case he has to return to work in that sector one day.

We do not doubt the good intentions behind that use, but we believe that it sets what may be a dangerous precedent. In its response, the Executive does not accept what we said and does not give us comfort that a precedent is not being set.
