Accordingly, no such directions have been revoked during the period since May 1997.However, in the light of a recently issued court judgement relating to an English planning application (Trustees of the Friends of the Lake District v Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions: 26 March 2001 Ref: CO/4008/2000) it is now recognised that, in certain circumstances, it may be possible to revoke such directions, provided there are compelling and justifiable reasons for doing so.
