There is a serious danger in requiring a report to be made to the Parliament. As I said, the threshold may be raised and interventions may not happen as often as they perhaps ought to.

The convener would know more about what the official has been doing but—being human—politicians and officials may sometimes get up one another's noses, which may mean that the convener is not the most neutral person when it comes to reappointment.
