To ask the Scottish Executive what proportion of pig farms are in compliance with paragraph 16 of Schedule 6 to the Welfare of Farmed Animals (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2003, which requires pigs to have permanent access to a sufficient quantity of material such as straw, hay, wood, sawdust, mushroom compost, peat or a mixture of these to enable proper investigation and manipulation activities. It is not possible to state what proportion of pig farms comply with the requirements of the Welfare of Farmed Animals (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2003 as we do not have information on every pig farm.
