The group was due to send recommendations to ministers before the summer recess. The petitioner’s recent written submission points to the housing and homelessness emergency and the cost of living challenges in Scotland.
This is the final meeting before the summer recess, so I thank all members, the clerks, the officials and advisers to the committee for their hard work during what has been a very busy time, as is evidenced by the fact that two inquiries have been discussed this morning.
The committee previously considered the petition at our meeting on 29 June, just before the summer recess, when we agreed to write to the Scottish Government and Transport for London.
My concern around cervical screening involves some of the issues that my colleague Maree Todd updated Parliament on before the summer recess. She will provide Parliament with a further update shortly.
I hope to be able to announce the lead before the Christmas recess. Members are aware that the chair of a public inquiry has a significant role in respect of finalising the inquiry’s remit: we will undertake that finalising work with him or her, and will be able to announce the inquiry’s final remit and its start date shortly after telling the committee and Parliament who will lead the inquiry.
