I genuinely hope that he will be successful in his search.I believe fundamentally in parity for vocational education with other forms of education and training, as does the Executive, which is why we have expanded the modern apprenticeship programme so quickly and assuredly. There is no limit on places, but the programme is demand led, because it is important to secure employment for the young people as a prerequisite for the consequential training.No evidence has been submitted to me that the influx of immigrant labour from eastern Europe—or anywhere else for that matter—is having an adverse effect on training opportunities for young people in this country, but I will ask officials to look into that and raise the issue more generally with representatives of the construction industry when I next meet them.
