We know that women end up in lower-paid occupations with worse career prospects than men following the modern apprenticeships programme but also, and perhaps more crucially with regard to the budget, the training programmes that women tend to take part in have less money spent on them, because they last only six months to a year whereas young men go into programmes that benefit from four years of spending.
