That the Parliament agrees the following dates under Rule 2.3.1: 19–23 February 2001 inclusive, 9–20 April 2001 inclusive, 2 July–31 August 2001 inclusive, 8–19 October 2001 inclusive and 24 December 2001–4 January 2002 inclusive.
It was published on 20 April and the closing date for consultation is 31 July. If we are to input to that consultation process, we can do so, in my view, only by appointing a reporter, as we did with the stalking and harassment consultation exercise.
I could see that the accounts that are referred to in section 18(2)(b) could become too burdensome, in that the individuals would have to address issues such as hairdresser costs, taxis and so on. Perhaps at a later date the minister could revisit those issues when he is considering amendment 20 and its reference to section 18(2)(b).
That is a disaster area at the moment with no forward dates. If we have dates for meetings in advance it will work; it will not work if we are told about a meeting two days before it takes place.
That seems entirely reasonable, because objectors might try to use the legal system to delay the project beyond any finite date, if there is such a thing as a finite date.
The lack of evidence is the basis for the committee's difficulty in trying to ascertain what the situation is.I propose that we withdraw the orders and return to them at a later date. That will allow us to garner further information and will allow committee members, if they wish, to pursue the matters for which they need more time to investigate.
