Our successor committee in the next session of Parliament may well want to urge the Executive—whomever it is—to deal with the confetti of regulations, as John Home Robertson described them.What is happening at present makes for confusion.
The regulations have obviously got us very confused, so I am sure that they will get other people very confused. As Christine May said, we want the regulations to be clear.
The two issues that I mentioned are very much related, although I understand that George Reid or Murray Tosh may take the matter forward. It is suggested that written submissions should be made by Wednesday 18 June, which is a tight time scale.
We had hoped to produce the work on performance indicators next year, but that is unlikely to happen before May 2002.Finally, we will produce the second overview of the health service.
