Supported by: Jeremy Balfour*, Sandra White*, Emma Harper* *S5M-12458 Richard Lyle: Dementia Awareness Week 2018 That the Parliament recognises — that Alzheimer Scotland’s annual Dementia Awareness Week will run from 4 to 10 June 2018 with the theme, Making Sure Nobody Faces Dementia Alone; understands that it will aim to highlight how everyone can play a role in ensuring that people living with the condition are recognised, valued and supported in their communities; notes that, as part of the week, Alzheimer Scotland s annual conference will take place on 8 June to bring together people with dementia, ’ families, carers, professionals and academics to share ideas, knowledge and information; believes that, with 90,000 people in Scotland living with the condition, everyone has an important role to play to ensure that communities support them to live well; encourages all Members to find out about the events and activities that are taking place in their areas and to get involved and raise awareness of the week; recognises that simple steps can be taken by all to support people with dementia and encourages everyone to become a Dementia Friend and to use Alzheimer Scotland s resources for tips and advice; acknowledges the importance of community assets such ’ as dementia resource centres as crucial point of contact for information, advice and support for people with dementia, their families and carers, and commends the work of Alzheimer Scotland in raising awareness and campaigning on what it believes is such an important issue.
