*S5M-12331 Pauline McNeill: Human Rights Under Surveillance That the Parliament — welcomes the publication of Amnesty International s report, Human Rights Under Surveillance: ’ Digital Threats Against Human Rights Defenders in Pakistan; expresses deep concern regarding reported online attacks on human rights campaigners such as Diep Saeeda, who it understands has experienced relentless attempts to compromise her computer, mobile phone and social media accounts; believes that Diep s case is symptomatic of further widespread and targeted online ’ attacks, as evidenced in the report; highlights findings in the report of evidence of using custom- built malware and Android spyware that would expose human rights defenders to extensive and long-term digital surveillance; welcomes Amnesty International s comprehensive and technical ’ research, which it considers exposes a sustained and sophisticated campaign of digital targeting of human rights defenders, and, in the spirit of the Scottish Government s Pakistan Engagement ’ Strategy, and Scotland s historic relationship with Pakistan, calls for the Government of Pakistan ’ to fully investigate the allegations made in the report, and to ensure the protection of Diep Saeeda and other human rights campaigners.
