In the longer term, we want to encourage employers to provide adequate child care facilities. One of the aims of the programme, especially in priority 5, is to assist companies to change their culture with regard to family-friendly policies.

There was no OBC for this project - it was approved through the Investment Decision Making (IDM) framework which is in place to allow Transport Scotland to make key investment decisions and monitor programmes. 3. The OBC was undertaken by Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Renfrewshire Council in September 2000.

Even if the council tax were, in effect, to be abolished, people would still have a role not only in that respect but in administering housing benefits and so on. I have not come armed with employee numbers, but estimated council tax collection and administration costs in Scotland are about £40 million.

My officials contacted the bridge authorities to offer such a meeting if staff would find it useful. Representatives of Tay bridge employees said that they did not wish to pursue a meeting and I still await a formal reply from Forth bridge staff representatives.
