Supported by: Shona Robison*, Aileen Campbell* *S5M-05948 Bob Doris: Springburn Musical Memories That the Parliament recognises the — good work of the volunteer-run Singing for the Brain Musical Memories group based at Springburn Parish Church every Monday afternoon; notes the dedication of Brian Smith along with 12 volunteers who run the fun musical therapy project, which provides live music for people living with dementia and their families and friends; notes that many people from care homes based in areas such as Stobhill, Milton, Springburn and Bishopbriggs come together with their families and carers to enjoy traditional Scottish songs; considers that such an initiative, which focuses on music and singing, is beneficial to those living with dementia, as researchers have found that the auditory cortex area of the brain is relatively unaffected by dementia and therefore has lasting effects over several days, and that participants are able to engage and sing along; congratulates Singing for the Brain on its success in bringing happiness to those living with dementia, and their family members and carers, through music and singing, and recognises this initiative in supporting those living with and affected by dementia in north Glasgow.
