The Scottish Government included the proposal for a Patient Safety Commissioner in its 2020-21 Programme for Government and consulted on the proposal for a Commissioner focused initially on medicines and medical devices in 2021. The current Bill would extend the remit of the Patient Safety Commissioner for Scotland beyond medicines and medical devices to include patient safety more broadly.
