Other new and altered motions and amendments *S5M-09965 Bob Doris: HIV and UK Aviation That the Parliament condemns the reported — decision by the Civil Aviation Authority to deny class 1 medical certificates to people living with HIV, which it understands prevents otherwise capable pilots from taking up employment as commercial airline pilots; believes that the medical evidence that is being used to justify this decision was published in 2007 and considers that advances in HIV medicine and treatment render such evidence out of date; understands that, under the Equality Act 2010, HIV is recognised as a disability and protected characteristic, which should protect people living with it from employment discrimination; recognises that a number of countries worldwide allow people living with HIV to become commercial airline pilots, including the Netherlands, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and urges the Civil Aviation Authority to take urgent steps to avoid what it considers such discrimination for people living with HIV.
