Clydesdale Bank (Closures) To ask the Scottish Executive what action it is taking to support businesses, communities and vulnerable individuals affected by the recent decision of the Clydesdale Bank to close branches.
The response suggests that that was our fault for having been closed over the Christmas period. I think that the holidays that we took at Christmas were probably the same public holidays that others took, including Executive officials.
The employees will be paid before the Bank of Scotland, the Bank of Scotland will be paid before the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Royal Bank of Scotland will be paid before the unpaid employees.
The main weakness was that, during the year, the corporate body did not perform the necessary periodic reconciliations between its bank accounts and its accounting ledger.

Some banks and building societies ask people to bank with them when they arrange mortgages, so charging will also cut down choice in that respect.I am pleased at the response of the Scottish banks on this issue.
The Executive would state that the act will apply as from a date in the future, rather than from a date in the past by which lawyers had already acted and done everything.
I am thinking in particular of Scottish companies such as the Royal Bank of Scotland that have been very successful in expanding their operations overseas.
