(S3O-961) Orkney Islands Council has asked the Scottish Government for substantial additional financial support towards the capital costs of a long-term programme to improve its interisland transport services.
We are always willing to consider ways in which we can enhance that programme. Keep Scotland Beautiful, which administers the eco-schools project, is introducing a major campaign on food waste, in which schools will be actively involved.
The Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth announced on 24 May that we will establish our efficiency programme for 2008 to 2011 during the spending review.
That means that someone who has a visual impairment or is completely blind is able to cross the road by themselves without assistance. The device is there for people who cannot see the lights: when they feel it rotate, they can cross the road.
I do not object to that course of action; I just suggest that the Scottish Parliament information centre may be of great assistance in directing requests for factual and research evidence.
Things are improving already through mechanisms such as the water framework directive and the river basin management plans, and the bill has the potential to assist in enabling greater improvements to be made in the future.
