Official Report Meeting date: 18 December 2008

Plenary, 18 Dec 2008

Given that over the same period the remuneration of Scottish Water's various executive directors has risen substantially, from an average of £108,000 per annum to an average of £172,000 per annum, does the minister agree that Scottish Water's staff should be fairly rewarded for their dedication with a just pay settlement rather than the arbitrary imposition of what amounts to a wage cut? Bill Butler may...
Official Report Meeting date: 16 December 2008

Public Petitions Committee, 16 Dec 2008

Obviously, as Bill Butler said, if there is some uncertainty surrounding the draft bill, both the petitioners and the member who has a constituency interest in the matter may resubmit an amended petition. If the Government is going out to consultation, perhaps we should ask it to ensure that the petitioner is consulted.
Official Report Meeting date: 4 November 2008

Public Petitions Committee, 04 Nov 2008

Even if Captain Carter's petition refers to a reserved area of law, it abuts areas of law that are not reserved. The petition may therefore be admissible, simply because it is not entirely unrelated to Scottish law, which, of course, comes under our responsibilities.
Official Report Meeting date: 2 October 2008

Plenary, 02 Oct 2008

That is a law reform that no previous Administration sought to introduce; indeed, there may be problems in introducing it. In any event, given that any law reform would not be retrospective, it would not apply to those who have difficulties with land maintenance companies.
Official Report Meeting date: 9 September 2008

European and External Relations Committee, 09 Sep 2008

As Keith Brown said, we have discussed whether Scotland's interests are being fully represented, but the issues that we came across last session were the transparency of that representation, the status of the memorandum of understanding and to what extent the Scottish Government or anybody else is able to state openly what position it has argued for and how that may differ from the UK Government's position.Another possibility for us, apart from making a written submission, is to have an informal session with the Scottish Affairs Committee to discuss some of these matters.
Official Report Meeting date: 24 June 2008

Public Petitions Committee, 24 Jun 2008

A second issue is that I am unsure—to put it mildly—whether the people who implement the guidelines are aware of the Government's view. The Government may well say that there is no anomaly, but I can tell you that telephone companies and local authorities do not act as if they know that the guidelines also apply to pre-school children.
Official Report Meeting date: 22 May 2008

Plenary, 22 May 2008

The minister will recall that Scottish Enterprise told the committee the same thing—about Scottish Enterprise. She may recall page 55 of the SNP manifesto, which says:"We will transfer the budgets for the creative industries from Scottish Enterprise to Creative Scotland."
Official Report Meeting date: 1 May 2008

Plenary, 01 May 2008

I recognise the complexity of the issue and welcome the extent of the progress that has been made on it by both the previous Government and the present one. May I press the minister a bit further, particularly regarding dates?
Official Report Meeting date: 16 April 2008

Plenary, 16 Apr 2008

Here, commitment to the radical gospel of God's concern for the poor has led to some creative and life-enhancing partnerships with others in the community who dream of possibility and look for life.We know that there is so much to do—so many who do not know their worth, who have believed themselves useless or a nuisance, or who have accepted the antisocial delinquent tag that has been placed on them by a society that sees them as a problem rather than a rich resource, helping to forge the nation shaped by the wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity that were embodied in the original vision for this Scottish Parliament and which are emblazoned on its mace.I am glad to bring you today the greetings and good wishes of the folk of Cranhill parish church, who hold together their grief for the past with their hope for the future and who, in this Easter season, offer a living witness to the good news of life after death. May...
Official Report Meeting date: 30 January 2008

Plenary, 30 Jan 2008

There is a need for people who will befriend you, trust in you and identify the potential for change that lies within you—people who, because they believe in you, allow you to believe in yourself.I spoke to some of the men in London who are being helped to find housing and to make a new start in life—in London or back home—and I learned what it meant for them to have someone to offer them friendship, to support them through hard times and to keep faith with them when the road to self-respect takes longer than anyone might want. Such patient, caring work may...
