To ask the Scottish Executive how it plans to reduce the use of bank and agency nurses in the NHS. NHSScotland employers are expected to employ staff on a permanent basis.
We do not need to decide on that individual or on their specific remit today, but we might wish to give some thought to the issue, especially over the Christmas holidays. I nominate Lord James Douglas-Hamilton to liaise for the committee.
That committee meets on 26 October—a Tuesday—so Alasdair and I will be unavailable then. There is a parliamentary holiday on 30 November—accordingly that Tuesday is not available.
