Following on from what Rod Ashley has just said, I think that the other element is the need for future investment in the bank’s fabric and technology. That, too, can come only from accumulated reserves, and if reserves are not actually accumulating, it makes it increasingly difficult to keep the bank’s fabric and technology up to date.
