Supported by: Paul Sweeney* *S6M-17325 Murdo Fraser: Death of Former Black Watch Commander Sir Andrew Ogilvy- Wedderburn—That the Parliament expresses its sadness at the passing of the late Sir Andrew Ogilvy-Wedderburn, 7th Baronet of Ballindean, of Alyth, who has died at the age of 72; notes that Sir Andrew was educated at Gordonstoun and was commissioned into the Black Watch in 1972, where his distinguished military career took him from Northern Ireland to Berlin, and the historic handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997; further notes that his career rose from adjutant, company commander, chief of staff and commanding officer of 1st Battalion, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) and included leading the British Contingent of the Tripartite Guard of Honour during US President Ronald Reagan’s famous visit to West Berlin in 1987; acknowledges that he also was part of the British bobsleigh team in the 1970s, winning the British championships and representing Team GB in the four-man event at the Winter Olympics in 1976 and 1980, and winning the Army Sniper Shield in 1979, then latterly being the director of the Scottish Army Benevolent Fund and commander of recruiting in Scotland, and expresses its condolences and sympathy to his family and friends at this sad time.
