Official Report Meeting date: 17 November 1999

Justice and Home Affairs Committee, 17 Nov 1999

I would choose the words "potential adverse consequences", because, until the specific content of the bill has been examined by those bodies, neither they nor we will be in a position to assess what the consequences might be. To date, they have been excluded from the consultation exercise and, in some cases and from the information that we have received, th...

SPICe has liaised with a number of key organisations and has organised a programme of work for us. The dates that it suggests for the seminars are 15 and 22 November.
Official Report Meeting date: 15 September 1999

Social Inclusion, Housing and Voluntary Sector Committee, 15 Sep 1999

Official Report Meeting date: 26 May 2005

Plenary, 26 May 2005

When the committee started work on the bill, we quickly agreed that the Scottish bill should be adapted in the light of the information that we collected and the experience that had accrued since the Westminster act was passed, rather than rubber-stamp identical legislation, so this has not been a mechanical exercise. The consultation period on the draft bill ran from 20 July until 31 August 2004, despite the Scottish Executive consultation good practice guidance, which was published earlier in 2004, stating on page 5:"In order to meet existing SE consultation commitments you must … allow consultees at least 12 weeks to respond, except in very exceptional circumstances".The fact that the truncated consultation period spanned the summer holiday...

It provides counselling and support for people with MS and their families, funds research into all aspects of the causes and possible treatments of MS, provides information services for health professionals, helps in the development of models of care and runs holiday respite homes. We cannot say often enough that its work is quite simply invaluable. The Scot...
Official Report Meeting date: 23 March 2004

European and External Relations Committee, 23 Mar 2004

It is a great pleasure for Manfred Beschel and me to be at the committee today. We view it as a day's holiday. Perhaps I should not have said that publicly, but it is very nice for both of us to be let out of prison for the day to talk to the committee; we have to be back before sundown.Rather than gallop through an opening statement that ought to fill abou...
Official Report Meeting date: 25 February 2004

Plenary, 25 Feb 2004

Thought is being given to the recruitment of GPs, but at present it is very difficult for GPs in rural areas to get another GP to provide locum cover so that they can have a holiday. I do not see anything in the new contract that will improve the situation or that will enhance the prospects of GPs who want to work in rural areas.
Official Report Meeting date: 4 June 2003

Plenary, 04 Jun 2003

That, in turn, is on top of the £530 million spent on schools under the previous round of PPP.As members in the chamber will probably know better than I do, Fife was successful in that early round and two new secondary schools and a new primary school will be ready for occupation after the summer holidays to replace previous unsatisfactory accommodation.
Official Report Meeting date: 12 March 2003

Plenary, 12 Mar 2003

Perhaps all parties—in which I include my own—might help matters if we did not insist on voting on every amendment once it has been made obvious whether the Parliament accepts the principle in each group of amendments. We have come a long way since Ross Finnie introduced his first white paper—or glossy document—on agricultural tenancies when we were on holiday in Glasgow in May 2000. However, the time has been worth while spending.
