It seems to me that one of the most constructive initiatives has been MECOPP’s programme of awareness training for service providers, which has vastly improved providers’ understanding of the particular and individual characteristics of Gypsy Traveller communities and seems to have gone a long way towards reassuring Gypsy Travellers that not everyone is hostile towards them and giving them the confidence to understand that there is a significant body of opinion that wants to help.
