*S6M-08368 David Torrance: Kirkcaldy RFC Celebrates 150th Anniversary—That the Parliament celebrates the 150th anniversary of the founding of Kirkcaldy Rugby Football Club; notes that Kirkcaldy RFC was formed by members of the Kirkcaldy Cricket Club after a meeting in the George Hotel on 1 October 1873 at 7.30pm; understands that, as Scottish enthusiasm for rugby declined within the following decade, most of the early rugby clubs disappeared without trace, however, Kirkcaldy survived, and by 1885 had satisfied the criteria for admission to the Scottish Football Union, which is now known as Scottish Rugby Union (SRU); considers that Kirkcaldy RFC has been at the forefront of several major advancements of rugby in Scotland, emerging as winners of the first ever rugby sevens tournament to be held north of the River Forth, having a major role in the establishment of the Scottish national league system set up in 1973, and winning the inaugural SRU National Youth League final in 1981, beating Melrose in the final at Murrayfield and retaining the trophy the next year; recognises what it sees as the inclusive, community-driven attitude Kirkcaldy RFC promotes through World Rugby’s values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect, and wishes Kirkcaldy RFC the very best for the next 150 years of rugby.
