Equalities and Human Rights Committee Session 5 Legacy Report

Furthermore, it has meant the Committee can take a leading role in the Scottish Parliament being a human rights guarantor. Legislative scrutiny on issues relating to the Age of Criminal Responsibility (Scotland) Bill, Children (Equal Protection from Assault) (Scotland) Bill and the first Bill to fully incorporate an international treaty into Scots law, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill (UNCRC Bill), have brought fresh insight into international human rights standards and domestic circumstances.

The Presiding Officer has selected the following amendments S6M-00144.4 Annie Wells: Health Recovery—As an amendment to motion S6M-00144 in the name of Humza Yousaf (Health Recovery), leave out from “, and supports the establishment” to end and insert “; welcomes the Feeley Review and aims to work with families and the sector to design reforms focused on putting Scotland's social care system on a sustainable footing; calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that the promised increase in inpatient, day case and outpatient activity will not adversely affect the time consultants get to spend with a single patient; recognises the unacceptably high levels of drug deaths in Scotland and believes everyone should have a right, enshrined in law, to the necessary alcohol and/or drug treatment option that they seek, and awaits the early publication and progress of a bill on restitution for victims of the Mesh scandal.”

COVID-19 Recovery Committee: Annual Report 2023-24 - Equalities and engagement

The Committee also agreed that its non-legislative scrutiny would focus on the NHS recovery in 2023. The Committee's inquiry on the recovery of NHS dental services included an aim to investigate how access to services was being targeted in communities that experience health inequalities.
