The committee that I chaired at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence—almost three years ago, now—recommended that there be medicinal e-cigarettes, but the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency process is so cumbersome and complex that few companies have been willing to put forward devices for medicines regulation.

Last year, a further £1.7 million funding was awarded to SAIC, through the European and Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for piloting non-medicinal sea lice interventions.
