However, for a medicine to be routinely prescribed in Scotland, it must first receive a licence from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, which is the licensing body for the UK, and it must then be accepted by the Scottish Medicines Consortium, which provides advice to NHS Scotland about the value for patients of newly licensed medicines.
