*S6M-01967 Stuart McMillan: Jimmy Boyland, Best Volunteer in Youth Football for West of Scotland—That the Parliament congratulates Jimmy Boyland, the chair of Port Glasgow Boys Club (PGBC), on being named Best Volunteer in Youth Football for the west of Scotland; understands that the 66-year-old received the Scottish FA Grassroots Awards in recognition of the enormous amount of time he has dedicated to coaching young people over the last 40 years; further understands that the local stalwart was hospitalised with COVID-19 last year, forcing him to pause his volunteering work, and that he feared he might never return to coaching as at one point medics thought they would need to summon his family to the hospital as his condition worsened; welcomes that after two weeks in hospital and three days in critical care, Jimmy began to recover and is now back coaching; acknowledges that Jimmy’s busy schedule often involves coaching every day of the week, and includes visiting primary schools for after-school sessions, evening sessions for PGBC, and a Friday Night Football session for 5 to 12-year-olds, all of which involves up to 80 kids attending across the whole week; commends Jimmy for his efforts to encourage young people to be active and for giving them the opportunity to experience football; thanks him for his commitment to the grassroots game, and wishes him all the best as he continues to inspire young people across Inverclyde to take up the sport.
