I know that we have a very good patient safety programme, but the British Medical Journal no longer reports on Scottish issues very much; it does not seem to give us much credit in these areas.

The system in Scotland gives us a rapid assessment of new drugs. For very expensive drugs, that assessment often gives a negative response, which can make things difficult for clinicians who have to deal face to face with patients who are aware of a drug’s availability and of the cancer drugs fund in England.
