I have been working with my constituents Mr Morton and Miss Logan on investigating the tragic death of their son, Lucas. In scrutinising action plans produced from a previous root cause analysis review, we were shocked to discover that areas that it recommended for improvement in 2010 were the same areas that failed Mr Morton, Ms Logan and their son five years later.
The mother, father and one of the sons have managed to get jobs, while the other son is still at school, and they have found a house for themselves in Argyll.
If more mothers said that to their sons, instead of mothers saying to their daughters, “Take care” and “Be careful”, the world would be a better place.
I asked her about the difference between where she was and where she is now, and she said, “I now say no to my son less.” That is amazing—it is so simple, but it is amazing.
At one point, she had to call an ambulance due to her son’s severe chest pains. The ambulance report cited mould as an environmental factor at the property.

At the wonderful memorial service in August, we were all reminded that he was also a family man who was so proud of his three sons and of his wider family—a family who gave him a send-off to remember.
