Motion, as amended, agreed to, That the Parliament notes the positive steps taken by Games partners in Scotland’s final preparations to host a successful Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games; recognises the long-lasting active, social and economic legacy being delivered for the whole of Scotland by Legacy 2014 programmes; acknowledges once again the endorsement of the Commonwealth Games Federation for what Scotland has achieved; celebrates the success of both the Games ticketing programme and the launch of the Queen’s Baton Relay, engendering anticipation and excitement in Scotland and the Commonwealth; welcomes the cross-party support for the delivery of a successful Games this summer; believes in the ability of sport to inspire social change and improvements to the nation’s health; calls on the Scottish Government to make further efforts to improve participation in physical activity and sport for all; believes that, with the right approach, the Commonwealth Games is a chance to encourage all Scots to become more active more often, and notes the comment from sportscotland that to maximise the impact of the Games, both in 2014 and in the decades ahead, competitive sport should have an important place in all schools.
