Supported by: Joan McAlpine*, Richard Lyle*, Gail Ross*, Tom Arthur*, Ben Macpherson*, David Torrance*, Graeme Dey*, Ash Denham*, Bill Kidd*, Clare Adamson*, Ivan McKee* *S5M-01926 Ben Macpherson: Leithers Don't Litter Named Best Litter Prevention Initiative That the Parliament congratulates Leithers Don t Litter on winning the GJF — ’ Fabrications Best Litter Prevention Initiative at the Scottish Resources Awards ceremony, which was held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 6 October 2016; appreciates that Leithers Don t Litter was started a year ago by Zsuzsa and Gerry Farrell to raise a groundswell of ’ anti-litter activism in the area; further appreciates that they now have 1,600 social media followers and have organised two big clean-ups with 110 volunteers collecting 170 bags of rubbish; recognises their educational initiative with 300 pupils from local schools, which has taken 100 bags of litter off the streets; further recognises their Adopt-a-Street scheme, which already has 50 pledges from individuals to help to keep their street tidy; acknowledges that this award recognises that the work of Leithers Don t Litter has a positive impact on litter prevention and supports the ’ aims of the Scottish Government s national litter strategy, Towards a Litter-Free Scotland, and ’ thanks everyone who has volunteered and been involved with Leithers Don t Litter for their work in ’ supporting cleaner, safer communities in Leith.
