The School Health Service is responsible for providing support for pupils with health care needs including the promotion of the physical, mental and social wellbeing of children within the school setting.Every school has a named school nurse and the numbers of nurses have risen in Scotland to a current figure of just under 500 whole-time equivalents. The frequency of the contacts which she, or he, will have with any one school will vary.School Nurses plan, provide and evaluate specialist nursing care to meet the health needs of the school population and their families and carers.
