I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that the fundamental purpose of statutory regulation is to protect the public, however it has long been recognised that the current model requires reform to adapt to future service challenges and better support wider workforceflexibilities. As health and care needs of our population drives the development of new roles and the enhancement of existing roles, it is always necessary to consider the proportionate level of professional assurance; therefore, I am of the firm view that statutory regulation is necessary in this case.
The retail sector is not just important to Scotland’s economy, it is important to our high streets in our towns, cities and local communities, and with nearly 10% of Scotland’s overall workforce working in retail, it offers many people successful and flexible careers.
An important part of our efforts to address that has been increasing our health visitor workforce by more than 500 since 2014 and expanding funded early learning and childcare to 1,140 hours for all eligible children.
He said:
we have a level of trust through our section 95 officers for all our other finances, including the shared prosperity fund, the no one left behind funding and a wide range of other types of external funding that comes in through both governments.
Last year, for example, SOSE provided £6.9 million of funding to SMEs in the south. By providing investment, expertise and mentoring to businesses, SOSE will continue to develop the economic potential of the region.
