We should not be going through that in 2022, 2023, 2024 or going forward. We can tackle rural loneliness with better public transport and better ways in which people can get around.
I do not want to give you a difficult time, but I am unimpressed by the amount of work that has been done to date. It does not give me confidence that the road is as safe as it ought to be.
That decision still allows the petitioner to come back with fresh information at a later date, and I would be quite happy to re-examine the issue at that stage.
Can you provide some background to that review, such as the progress to date, the main issues that are being considered, and when the review is likely to conclude?
The financial implications section of the committee’s paper on the LCM states that the financial impact of not meeting the stipulated date “would be limited”, because of the small number of people involved.
I have raised the issue with the Commission’s competition directorate and have asked it to investigate the matter. To date, however, we do not know whether that is going to happen.
