As some months have now passed since both the UK Bill and the Scottish Government’s LCM were introduced, I am writing to you to offer you the opportunity to provide further written information in advance of the session that might assist the Committee with its scrutiny.
For example, it could help Police Scotland with its criminal investigations, as well as assisting public sector bodies ensure citizens get access to their full benefit entitlements.
That brings me to the next aspect of the programme that is to be welcomed. There are numerous references in the programme to support for jobs, businesses, the high street and our tourism sector.
Eighty-six per cent of our budget is spent on employee costs. We have very little movement on non-employee costs, so any reduction in elements of the budget would have an impact on our workforce.
The programme will involve the SCMA in scaling up its already successful pilots, which include a £750 start-up grant and tailored support for new childminders, as well as more practical assistance for the existing workforce.
