Of course, in its desperation, the Scottish Government is clinging to an analysis by Professor Leslie Young—although I have to say that his analysis uses the phrase, “tight fiscal union” and also paints an alarming picture of the situation that would prevail if we had a monetary union, in which there would have to be a migration of the banks. He says that there would be a “slow-motion bank run” on Scottish banks as people shifted their deposits to English banks.
