We have also received a large number of letters from various MEPs acknowledging that we had written to them.The petition was formally referred to the Minister for Environment and Rural Development to be taken into account in European negotiations. Those have taken place and the minister has responded to the committee as requested.

In particular, can he assure me that indicators that are used to identify rural poverty will take fair account of life in rural areas? For example, dependence on cars is high but that high level of car dependence and ownership masks rural poverty.
