The Public Petitions Committee is keen to assert that committees should not get involved in local government decisions, because local councils are elected and are accountable for their decisions. We would only involve a committee of the Parliament in a petition if that petition has national implications.

It is open to any citizen to seek a judicial review of a Government decision in the courts—that is clear—but to say that one democratically elected Parliament should challenge the decision of a minister who is accountable to another democratically elected Parliament, through the courts, is quite a different matter.
