Scotland's special leave to remain scheme, which started in June 2005, has resulted in more than 1,800 successful applications to date. Linda Fabiani asked questions about the various groups.
The minister has every opportunity to lodge amendments that will cause us to support it at a later date but he has a long road to travel before that happens.
The context was that we were revisiting and trying to bring up to date legislation on partnerships, on which the Executive is consulting.We must do what we can.
I do not think that paragraph 6 of our submission claims that there is a conspiracy. It says:"We note that to date only one Baptist Union Minister has been asked to lead time for reflection and no person from Brethren"has been asked.
One problem is that the Executive has not noticed that it does not have to push bills through before the summer recess. We are not Westminster; we can resume consideration of bills in the autumn.
I suggest that we correspond with those three groups during the summer recess; when we have their responses, we can consider the petition again early in September, at which point we can decide whether to take further action.
