We were not aware that the McIntosh commission would be debated before the recess. It would have been helpful if the First Minister had indicated his commitment to the McIntosh commission, particularly as new Labour made no submission to either consultation document.
We have to agree the final accounting with all the co-funders by May 2001, which was the date that was set in the contract with the Millennium Commission.
We have a slight problem with circulating copies of the Official Report of today's meeting, because it will not be published until 9 January due to the recess. Circulating copies of the Official Report is probably a non-starter.The last date on which we can discuss the matter is 15 January.
However, although I am pleased to open the debate, I must note the frequency with which Finance Committee debates take place on the last morning before a parliamentary recess, whether it be the Christmas recess or summer recess.
