I would like to see what Mr Fairweather said in defence of the Prison Service when we heard evidence from him and compare it with the comments in the HMI report. The report has not been produced overnight. There could be some conflict between his evidence to the committee and what is said in the report.

The census will provide fresh data on gender and ethnic minority households, covering a wealth of interrelated topics and areas. The results will be produced for a range of areas, including Scotland as a whole, council areas, council wards and output areas—the smallest level of disaggregation, which is an area containing about 50 households.

As we stated in our manifesto, there should be a common standard across the whole of the UK to ensure that our producers, processors, retailers and restaurateurs are not subject to more stringent regulations than those that apply elsewhere in the UK.
