Official Report Meeting date: 29 September 2004

Justice 1 Committee, 29 Sep 2004

With the committee's indulgence, I would like to pursue the question of clarity in our report and withdraw the proposal that the Executive produce an amendment. I would like us to say that the wording of the regulations could be made a wee bit easier to understand.
Official Report Meeting date: 29 September 2004

Public Petitions Committee, 29 Sep 2004

In both inquiries, a number of people who were called to speak produced medical or nursing experts. That added to the cost, but it also led us to question some of the expert views, which seemed to us to be partisan according to which point of view the expert had been paid to represent.
Official Report Meeting date: 28 September 2004

Health Committee, 28 Sep 2004

Taking evidence at stage 2 on my bill might be appropriate. The Executive's consultation is producing much evidence. In addition to submissions from the public, the Executive has told us about research that has been undertaken and about an international conference that it has held.
Official Report Meeting date: 15 September 2004

Communities Committee, 15 Sep 2004

That part of the guidance is about antisocial behaviour strategies and local authorities are responsible for co-ordinating and producing strategies. It is the Executive's guidance on what local authorities should take into account when they do that, so I do not know that that part of the guidance needs to be any stronger.
Official Report Meeting date: 23 June 2004

Public Petitions Committee, 23 Jun 2004

The petition does not represent a nimby complaint. We all produce sewage and we acknowledge that it must be dealt with somehow.
Official Report Meeting date: 9 June 2004

Public Petitions Committee, 09 Jun 2004

In many of the letters that we have had in reply to our letters, people have quoted the guidelines that were produced by the Scottish Executive in 2001.
Official Report Meeting date: 4 March 2004

Plenary, 04 Mar 2004

Karen Whitefield was right to speak about some of the work that will be done by the victims and witnesses unit.If we are serious about this bill making a difference, we should ensure that the finances are in place and that the necessary commitment exists on the part of the Lord Advocate, the Crown Office and others, as Annabel Goldie and others said. We should not only produce strategies, but ensure that we deliver on the strategies that we produce. We want to deliver on the recommendations of the Lord Advocate's report on support for child witnesses and we want to see proper implementation of victim statement and victim notification systems.
Official Report Meeting date: 13 January 2004

Health Committee, 13 Jan 2004

I do not think that it matters whether the Health Committee or the Local Government and Transport Committee leads on the bill, because we will take the same amount of evidence and produce the same results. However, I must say that the way this part of the meeting has gone shows why we should hold such discussions in private in future.
Official Report Meeting date: 10 December 2003

Public Petitions Committee, 10 Dec 2003

I am sure that the comments will be much appreciated.I first became aware of SEPA approximately two years ago, before which I had never had any involvement with the organisation. When Mining (Scotland) Ltd produced the plans for the Killoch and Westfield facilities, we started to be involved with various bodies, one of which was SEPA.
Official Report Meeting date: 2 October 2003

Plenary, 02 Oct 2003

I hope that we will be able to have another discussion—probably with my colleague Nicol Stephen—once the working group has produced its report and we can see what conclusions can be drawn.
