Are we in danger of killing the goose that lays the golden egg? If we allow shops to open on new year's day, it will fundamentally change its special nature.
It was important that our party's policy took account of both those elements and that we fed that into the system; I am sure that many Labour members felt the same.

To ask the Scottish Executive why the cost of the M74 extension has risen from #245 million in 2001 to between #375 and #500 million at present. The presentestimate now takes account of inflation up to the completion of the scheme in2008.
