In the official Edinburgh festival—just grabbing one weekend out of the air—you could have seen, as I did, an opera that was partly in French, partly in Gaelic and partly in English by a Belgian company with French and Gaelic singers, one of whom—the principal—lives in Ireland. There is a huge link there.
