The issues that I understand the Committee intends to address align with my own areas of focus and the work that I have already instructed of officials, and I hope that the inquiry’s findings will offer a constructive contribution to our policy development going forward. Meantime, it may be helpful if I set out some background on two key areas of work in my portfolio which may be of interest to the Committee, namely the Islands Connectivity Plan and Project Neptune.
It has taken prolonged effort during the most difficult of circumstances for students to reach the end of this academic year and it would be unforgivable if the government were to not act to prevent disruption which may impact students on the final leg of their achievement.

In accordance with section 7(1) of the Act, a revised policy statement will be laid in Parliament on 10 May explaining the approach, factors to be taken into account and process to be followed when considering use of the regulation making power under section 1 of the Act.
