The statement says that the speed limit on Milton Road and Hope Lane will be dropped to 20mph, but there is nothing about Stanley Street, so traffic will still come flying along there.
When I was Deputy Minister for Education and Young People, I visited several schools and saw the success of 20mph schemes and I have continued to do that as Minister for Transport.
Last week we announced funding direct to local authorities for new 20mph safety zones and other schemes around schools, amounting to £5 million this year, £11 million next year and £11 million in 2005-06.

(S2O-808) The Scottish Executive has announced funding of £27 million over the next three years for 20mph school safety zones. Highland Council's share is more than £1.2 million.

Local authorities are asked toprovide details twice yearly of the number of schools in their area which have hada 20mph speed limit implemented. By the end of June 2006, 20mph schemes were inplace at two-thirds of schools.
It is particularly important to implement those measures outside schools and that is why the Executive has an objective of extending 20mph zones to all Scotland's schools.
What impact does the minister expect that the schemes to introduce 20mph zones around schools and in residential areas will have in reducing the number of child casualties from road traffic accidents?
