As Nigel Don indicated, we should get a clearer way forward in terms of how we deal with this issue as well as other fisheries and land and sea-use issues. This is clearly a live issue. The committee’s view seems to be that we should include it in the legacy paper.

An issue that should be discussed with NHS Highland is access to orthodontic services. At present, patients who live in the far north are obliged to make many long return journeys to Inverness for consultation and treatment.

As people, we are prepared to do things that are risky and we just say that we will live with the risks. The advantage of breaking things while skiing is that, by and large, they will repair, whereas in discussing the petition we are dealing with a far longer-term and more insidious condition.

Bearing in mind the financial disaster that is the UK debt mountain created by Labour, and the impending savage cuts that are expected from the new Tory and Lib Dem UK Government, does the cabinet secretary agree with Labour’s David Whitton that we should limit free prescriptions, free pensioner travel and free school meals, which would adversely affect many people in Scotland whose lives we should be trying to improve?
