We are already recycling more material than ever before and local authority performance to June this year was over 32 per cent.Taking account of the current situation, we will be working with local authorities and other public sector partners to ensure that Scotland meets the challenging recycling targets that I announced in January 2008.

Recent steps to support those who wish to retrain include triggering our partnership action for continuing employment programme which, for example, is currently working in conjunction with the management of Freescale to deliver support through local PACE partners to those affected by the closure of Freescale's manufacturing facility; and opening up access to individual learning account funding to more people who are on low incomes and widening the range of work-related courses that attract ILA funding.

I have used the National Energy Foundation's carbon calculator to do some calculations on the First Minister's carbon footprint. On travel alone—without taking account of any of his household emissions—his footprint is over six times that amount.

However, moves have been made, with the outreach centre in Aberdeen and an increase in the number of salaried dentists. Action is being taken. By all accounts, things are getting a bit better in my area, but it is early days for judging the situation.
