We made clear our position on that decision in London, where we can do something about it, rather than here, where we can do nothing about it.In establishing areas in which the Liberal Democrats contend that improvement needs to be made, we do not need the sterile argument that Fergus Ewing has just made about the powers that the Scottish Parliament does not have. If MSPs want to debate macroeconomic policies, they can be elected to the palace of varieties on the Thames.

I think that it should be passed and that people should be encouraged to seek early advice from CABx, money advisers, law centres, solicitors, sheriff officers, MSPs and so on. However, no matter what legislation we pass, there will be a rump of people who will wear blinkers and pretend that the problem is not happening to them.

My real question is for Ian Cleaver, who made a comment about the forestry industry. As a constituency MSP for a tourist area in the north-east, I know that clear felling is resisted in Deeside.

We certainly must act on such information at a Scottish level.I am an MSP for the Highlands and Islands and am aware that ordinary people who are trying to earn a living or run a business are sometimes left out of the sustainability equation and are finding it harder to sustain their lives in remote areas.
